Being a ski teacher and in the snowsports industry for many years means that I am always being asked by fellow skiers for advice on where to go skiing.
It’s the impossible question to answer, as it is such a subjective thing. Also there are so many questions you have to provide so I can get the best idea of what you are looking for.
For example; how many people are on the ski trip, are they couples or singles, have they skied before, what standard are they, what ski resort have they been to before, what’s the budget, do you want good nightlife and nice places to eat, do you want catered accommodation or self catering, do you want a traditional ski resort or will a modern purpose built town suffice, how far are you prepared to travel, do you want off piste skiing, do you need to be able to ski from your door, do you want to go on a package holiday or book it all up yourself, do you want ski instruction, is the local language an issue, or local cultures.
The list is pretty much endless, but you need the information to make the best possible decision.
I break it down into 5 categories to make it easy for everyone.
Category 1. Level of skiing
Category 2. Apres Ski & Nightlife
Category 3. Non-Skiing activities
Category 4. Ski Resort Location
Category 5. Ski Holiday Price
So, with these 5 categories I can deduce which resort might be suitable. There are hundreds to choose from so I go through each category listing the best resorts in each one, and then number their priorities from one to five.
In my next post, I am going to go into how I do that! I hope you will be interested in my results. Cheers
